The monastery Erlenbad in Sasbach / Obersasbach is on the edge of the Black Forest. It was built in 1924-1926, at a time when the community of Franciscan women already had a very eventful history behind them.
During the Second World War the mother house Erlenbad was seized u.a. for 300 men of a construction company, for the accommodation of about 1000 ethnic German resettlers. The monastic community remained again only the Marienheim. From 1927 to 1956 the convent school was housed in the mother house.
Today, many of the once young, highly motivated nuns have returned to the Erlenbad, where they spend their last phase of life, after a fulfilled life on their wards. Currently there are about 110 sisters in the mother house. It is also the seat of provincial government and provincial government.November 21, 2016
