The Bredenbek pond is just a stone's throw from Ahrensburg. It is a 35-hectare natural lake with a famous inhabitant. The Maya the Bee lives here with all her friends. Waldemar Bonsels, author of the story "Maya the Bee and her Adventures", spent a large part of his childhood at the Bredenbek pond and was inspired by his many frogs, grasshoppers, spiders and of course bees to his book.The lake is ideal for swimming due to the excellent water quality. There is a beautiful beach area for the whole family, but also small reed bays with untouched nature. The body of water is the setting for the stories of Maya the Bee, in which the Ahrensburg author Waldemar Bonsels processed his childhood experiences.The author of Maya the Bee, Waldemar Bonsels, lived in Ahrensburg. There is a street named after him. The children's book, in which he processes his childhood experiences at the Bredenbek pond, has been translated into 41 languages and made Bonsels and his book world-famous, also through various film adaptations.
