The Red Hole shrine is located in the north of Erlabrunn. It was donated on April 27, 2002 by the outgoing mayor Dr. Friedrich Petermann and his wife.

The so-called red hole is an area of approx. 5000 square meters that was originally used for the extraction of clay and was therefore filled with water as a hole. The place was used as a garbage dump until the 1980s, before it was recultivated in the early 1990s. For this renaturation with fruit trees, the place received first place in the award "Habitat Fruit Tree".

The wayside shrine in modern style symbolizes reconciliation with nature and shows the four elements fire, water, air and earth. It is intended to exhort people to deal more carefully with creation and to preserve the living space. The sculpture was designed by the sculptor Helmut Grimm from Kleinrinderfeld.

A seating area in the immediate vicinity invites you to linger.
