First mention of the castle on the Bode was 12o5. It was repeatedly rebuilt and expropriated in 1945. From 1991 to 1997, the castle was empty and decayed. From August 1997, a foundation took over the ownership and now gradually restores it. Today in the castle is a restaurant and a hotel.

Hohenerxleben Castle was first mentioned in a document in 1205. At the beginning of the 16th century, the von Krosigk family bought the castle complex, which was surrounded on three sides by dry moats and was situated on a limestone cliff. After 1945, the castle was expropriated and used as a training location, including for the Technical University of Magdeburg.
Today, Hohenerxleben Castle is owned by the Schloss Theatrum Herberge Hohenerxleben Foundation, founded by Ingrid von Krosigk in 1997, and is used as a castle hotel and for artistic programs.
