Arcumeggia is famous because in 1956 the province of Varese started a project that promoted Affresco paintings on the outer walls of local houses. Various artists such as Ernesto Treccani, Achille Funi, Gianni Dova and Remo Brindisi have worked here.

Arcumeggia, a hamlet of the Municipality of Casalzuigno, is the first "painted town" in Italy. After the war the village suffered a strong depopulation and in an attempt to revitalize the town in 1965 the walls of the houses began to be decorated with paintings by nationally and internationally renowned authors. Today there are more than 160.
