The pilgrimage church of Re houses the altar with the image of the bleeding Madonna (Madonna del Sangue). The Madonna portrait recalls the miracle of April 29, 1494. Accordingly, an angry citizen of Re is said to have thrown a stone at the portrait of the Madonna, after which this picture is said to have cried tears of blood for twenty days.
