The Hochmatt cross (1958-2015) is very recent. Although it is not at the highest point, it offers a breathtaking view of the valley connecting Charmey to Jaun and the surrounding peaks.

View from the Hochmatt (2151.6m) to the northeast to the Schopfenspitz / Gros Brun (2104.3m) and the Schafberg (2239m). The summit cross of the Hochmatt can be seen on the right along the course of the ridge. It is at 2120m, not on the Hochmatt summit, but a bit off. The Hochmatt massif has only two very close peaks: the Cheval Blanc (2146 m) and the Hochmatt (2051 m), whose names testify to the fact that, very close to their peak, you can see the highest pasture and the ruins of the highest at the time Hut of the canton finds. The Hochmatt massif is somewhat neglected; it is overshadowed by the close proximity of the Gastlosen and the Vanil Noir massif. However, the Hochmatt is worth a visit, as you can see a fantastic view of the Gastlosen chain from here. The Hochmatt massif consists of four areas and four ridges. The N face is steep and partly rocky; it slopes towards the Jogne valley. The other areas are grassy and partly wooded; the western face dominates the valley of the Riau du Gros Mont; the east side delimits the lower part of the Petit Mont.
