The Volksdorf Forest is an urban recreational forest located in northeast Hamburg. It covers approximately 92 hectares, is located in the Volksdorf district, and borders Meiendorf to the south.

It is almost entirely surrounded by single-family residential areas. Its triangular shape is bordered to the west by the subway line 1 and the Meiendorfer Weg subway station.

The forest is crisscrossed by many paths that are ideal for cycling.

According to the topographical map, its eastern part is called Schießbusch. In the southwestern part, the stream-like Diekkampgraben begins, which leaves the forest near the subway bridge on Meiendorfer Weg. The remaining, larger part of the forest is crossed by a few, usually dry ditches. The highest point is the 63.3-meter-high Mellenberg, located at the eastern end, the peak of a Weichselian glacial terminal moraine.

As a round hill, it towers twelve meters above the surrounding area. The Volksdorf Forest is the remnant of a larger forest area that gave Hamburg's forest villages their name. It has belonged to Hamburg for several centuries and has been managed by the so-called "Waldherren" (forest lords) on behalf of the Hamburg Senate since the 16th century.

It is a mixed forest with a predominance of beech trees. Former spruce monocultures have been largely replaced by regrowing deciduous forest since the 1990s following severe storm damage. The forest is home to deer, which have no natural predators there. The forest contains a playground in varying structural condition. In June 2009, a commercial high ropes course ("Kletterwald Hamburg") opened near the Meiendorfer Weg subway station. Remains of a former observation tower on the Mellenberg, as well as those of the Volksdorf War Memorial, are no longer recognizable. The same applies to a shooting range that existed in the western tip of the Volksdorf Forest in the early 1940s. One can glimpse the route of an electric narrow-gauge railway that crossed the forest parallel to Meiendorfer Weg from 1904 to 1923, transporting passengers between Rahlstedt and Volksdorf. In the forest, there is a Hamburg boundary stone from 1838 and a boundary stone presumably dating before 1872.
