The lower pilgrimage church (yellow church, on the right under the big tree) represents a so-called Holy Blood Chapel, which owes its origin to a legend of the host. A consecrated host was harmed and could not be removed from the place where it had been placed. After a short time, a spring sprang up here, which was said to have miraculous powers in the healing of eye diseases. A well was built above the spring and therefore a small church (see Figures 2 and 3). Elections to Kappl probably began in the 14th century and soon so many believers came that a larger church (in the center of the picture) had to be built.
