Mountain Biking Highlight (Segment)
Recommended by 24 mountain bikers
Location: Alberobello, Bari, Apulia, Italy
Typical CrossCountry take. Evocative like the whole AQP area and adrenaline-filled if done at speed (especially downhill for a couple of drops). Care must be taken due to the humidity having the microclimate of the undergrowth. After the rains so be careful because it becomes really slippery. For the rest, the segment is really beautiful, passable all year round. Definitely better on MTB but with due attention and speed it can also be done on Gravel.

This segment combines the descent into the Pirro Canal from Santa Lucia along the SIC 11 path (known as the descent of the "stolen cars": by following it you will understand why) and the ascent on the AQP route through what is known to locals as "The second On the canal".
Both the descent and the ascent are not excessively technical, but they have some critical points where you need to pay a little attention, especially in humid conditions and after heavy rain.
The climb is perhaps the simplest to reach the aqueduct, as, after an initial part with loose stones, it has a well-trodden surface with constant slopes.
Segment recommended for the whole year, except in late summer, given the presence of the horsefly.
