The Wahner Heide is a wonderful natural paradise through which many thematic routes lead. They are all interesting and give a good impression of the diversity of the heathland. Just great ...

The 5000 hectare Wahner Heide is considered to be the most species-rich nature reserve in the whole of NRW. From Rösrath via Lohmar to Troisdorf, it borders directly on Cologne-Bonn Airport and was previously used as a military training area, airfield and prisoner of war camp. You don't notice much of that these days, so nature has completely reclaimed the area. Today, more than 100 species of breeding birds, more than 2,500 species of beetles and over 700 species of animals on the Red List live in this natural paradise, thanks to nature conservation and voluntary commitment. We humans also benefit from this: smaller hiking and biking trails make the extensive area an experience.
