The Mönchgraben is the historical border that separates the Mönchgut peninsula from the rest of the island of Rügen. This is where the Baltic Sea resort of Baabe is located, which, precisely because of this location, is considered the gateway to the Mönchgut. Until the end of the 19th century, the place, first mentioned in a document in 1252, was a very small fishing village with a few houses, which only developed with the emergence of bathing activities.
