The ponds that are meant here are the Dauteweyers, a nature reserve of 11 hectares of several ponds that were created in the eighteenth century during the mining of iron ore. They are now interconnected and include tree frogs, kingfishers and great crested newts. The road on this side gives relatively little visibility and is not very comfortable unless you step straight between two of the ponds. The best walking path to admire the ponds and nature is on the opposite side.

The Dauteweyers in Diepenbeek is an area with several interconnected ponds that date from the time of iron mining in the region. Thanks to a good water management and design project, the rare tree frog has been reintroduced. Please do not leave the trails. On one side you walk through the green, where there are many blackberry bushes. In sunny weather, it is there that you can spot tree frogs in peace and serenity. To the trained eye, it's a cinch. The rest of the fauna and flora is also very worthwhile.

The Dauteweyers are an example of how a rare animal can return quickly and in large numbers. Essentially, it is a (largely enclosed) zone with interconnected ponds dating back to the time of iron mining in the region. Thanks to good nature management, the rare tree frog is back. Please do not leave the trails. On one side you walk through the green, where there are many blackberry bushes. In sunny weather it is there (blackberries and other shrubs) that you can spot tree frogs in peace and serenity.
