The Quitmannsturm is an observation tower on the Kohlberg in Neuenrade. He was founded in 1893 by the sons of the Neuenrader teacher Carl Friedrich Quitmann who emigrated to England. The construction was not without problems. Even before the planned inauguration in 1893 destroyed a winter storm the tower. The work started from scratch. [1] The 14 meter high tower was finally built by Krupp Brüninghaus GmbH at an altitude of 514 meters above sea level. In 1986 he was renewed by the city Neuenrade. The best way to reach it is via the hiking car park "Quitmannsturm". Since July 2008, the long distance hiking trail "Sauerland-Höhenflug" leads past the tower [2], as well as other hiking trails. The formerly wide view from the tower to the east into the Lennegebirge and to the south into the Ebbegebirge is now limited by growing larches. To the north and west, the view extends to the neighboring Hohenzügen and valleys with strikingly forest-free areas as visible consequences of the hurricane Kyrill.
