At the Dreiherrnstein in the Brandoberndorf forest, the last wolf was shot in 1841 by Hasselborner hunter Konrad Schmidt in the Nassauer Land.

"On January 23, 1841, the Hasselborn hunter Konrad Schmidt roamed his territory in the Brandoberndorf forest. At the 'Dreiherrnstein' in the Nesselborn district, in the border area between Weilburg, Wetzlar and Usingen, where the municipalities of Brandoberndorf, Kröffelbach and Weilmünster meet, he too spotted a wolf and was able to shoot it. The ducal government in Biebrich even congratulated the hunter on this hunting success. In recognition, he received 15 guilders in 'shooting money'."
