After all, after Lake Constance, Müritz and Chiemsee, Lake Schwerin is the fourth largest inland lake in Germany. It is divided into its northern outer and southern inner lake by the Paulsdamm, which was raised in 1842.
There are numerous small towns on the banks that are very popular as holiday resorts: Flessenow, Retgendorf, Hohen Viecheln - to name just a few. The shores of the lake are open to hikers and cyclists. There are three islands in the lake: the Lieps, Rabbitwerder and Ziegelwerder.
