The oldest parts of St. John's Church, the recessed rectangular choir and the north sacristy, date from the middle of the 13th century and stand on a base made of fieldstone blocks. The east side of the choir has a round-arched group of three windows between two pointed arch panels. The jambs of the windows are fitted with alternating layers of glazed stones. There is a round-arched frieze above the group of windows. The gable of the choir has four internally structured pointed arch plaster panels. The bricked-up priest's gate in the south wall has a five-tiered jamb.
