Muckle Roe is an island to the west of Mainland Shetland connected by a bridge. It has a population of about 130 who mainly croft and live on the southeast of the island.
The geology of the island is mainly red granite. Muckle Roe translates as Big Red Island in a combination of Scots and Old Norse.
