The heavyweight wall was built in 1912/1913 by the dam pioneer Prof. Intze from Aachen. From 1990 to 1993 the facility was completely renovated. In the Middle Ages, when the people of the village of Marienheide still fetched their drinking water from the healing pond, there was a productive iron ore mine with its own smelting here, where the reservoir is now. Dated 1450. The raft furnaces operated with hydropower achieved an efficiency of up to 90% pure iron. 🛠️
