The Südfeldsee or Großkaynaer See is a residual open pit lake.
It lies south of Großkayna mainly in the Saalekreis and with a smaller southern part in the Burgenlandkreis.
Together with the Runstedter See in the north, the significantly larger Geiseltalsee and the significantly smaller Hassesee near Roßbach, it forms the Geiseltal lake complex - a series of lakes, all of which are flooded open-cast mines.
