Canale is a district of Ville del Monte opposite the Bocca Magnone, which has survived the centuries without much change. On the southern slope of Mount Misone lie contiguous and closely nested stone houses of strikingly unified Trentino style.

In 1967, the painter Giacomo Vittone opened his studio in Canale as one of the first "new citizens" when the village was already largely abandoned. Today, the Casa degli Artisti painters and sculptors from the region for undisturbed work in a nostalgic ambience.

Every year at the beginning of August, a one-week medieval village festival (Rustico Medioevo) takes place in Canale. There is a wide range of entertainment, from theatrical performances in costumes, inspired by old paintings, peasant Trentino singing performances to epicurean delicacies from local cooking pots. In addition, artists from the region come up with a variety of surprises for the entertainment of the population and the guests. The event series has become a fixture in the cultural life of Trentino.

No wonder that this village was included in the list of the most beautiful villages in Italy. Much old original architecture, which is now lovingly restored, or will. Every nook and cranny offers a new discovery!

The medieval village of Canale di Tenno is undoubtedly an obligatory stage for all those who want to immerse themselves in the flair of a place from long forgotten times and want to get to know its history, art and culture. The place, literally clinging to a slope, halfway between Lake Garda and the Alps, has only recently been added to the list of the most beautiful places in Italy, and this is not surprising: narrow cobbled streets, archways, small courtyards, houses that are like in the old villages from the 13th century.
The village, which was abandoned in the post-war years, revived in the 1960s thanks to artistic and cultural initiatives. This is where the “Casa degli Artisti - Künstlerhaus”, which was named after the painter Giacomo Vittone, is located and is a home and meeting place for artists from all over Europe.
But the surrounding landscape is another trump card for Canale: from an altitude of 570 meters there is the opportunity to admire Lake Garda in all its beauty, with the majestic mountains as a backdrop, or to visit Lake Tenno, one of the cleanest waters in Trentino , which impresses with its intense turquoise blue color and its small, picturesque island.
Canale di Tenno is undeniably a “one of a kind” in the diverse panorama of the Trentino towns. This mountain village is a pearl in the gentle Mediterranean landscape of Garda Trentino.

The Lake Tenno is a tranquil little lake with a very beautiful turquoise color ... Fascinating, however, is the small, medieval town of Canale, not far from the lake. Here you have the impression that time has stopped.

Here you can feel the Italian past and tradition .... The trail to Lake Tenno is difficult in some places and sometimes very rocky but beautiful.

A visit to the Borgo Medioevale di Canale should not be missed. Even if time is short, you can go through the few lanes and let the impressions work on you. Be sure to take a look!

Canale is a small village in the immediate vicinity of Lake Tenno. It is about 30 minutes by car from Riva. The little winding streets and the view of Lake Garda are wonderful. Must see.
