One of the 5 commons part of Ashridge Estate. Its 69 hectares are located to the north of the estate and it is easily accessible from the road from Ringshall to Ivinghoe Beacon. The location reflects the local pattern of 'strip parishes' linking ridge top common land to villages and farmland at the foot of the Chiltern escarpment. An arboretum has recently been established on the northern part of the common.
