The landscape that Cape Matxitxako offers is, in its most technical meaning, the best panoramic view of our coastline. As it is the northernmost cape in Euskadi, on very clear days you can see the Cantabrian coast and the French coast, although closer is the islet of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe and Aketze to the west, and Izaro and the Ogoño rock To the East. Its privileged location, included in the Natura 2000 Network and close to several special protection areas, make this enclave an ideal place for the analysis of biodiversity, specifically, for the observation of seabirds and cetaceans.

Of the two buildings that we see in its vicinity, the one above, the large one, corresponds to the new lighthouse, inaugurated in 1909 and which is currently in operation; The building that looks out over the precipice is the so-called old lighthouse from 1852 and which since 2014 has been converted into an observatory for birdlife and cetaceans.
