Tips

  • Secluded insider tip. The Burgberg tower protrudes in the middle of the forest. Unfortunately not always accessible, but there is a good opportunity for a rest here.

  • Farmed again at the weekend. A short break pays off.

  • The Burgberg is a towering landmark on the slope of the Keuperberge towards the Hohenloher plain and has been inhabited since the Middle Stone Age. A Celtic fortification on the leveled summit plateau later had to give way to a chapel, which was gradually joined by residential buildings. In 1961, the Schwäbische Albverein built the lookout tower, a boarded wooden construction on a stone base. In 1976, the restaurant attached to the tower was put into operation. There is a children's playground and an open fireplace. To the west and north you can see the Haller and Hohenloher plains with the Bühler, Schmerach and Kocher valleys, and the Kocher loop around the Neuberg near Gelbingen is particularly beautiful. To the west, the tower on the Einkorn looks out over the forests of the Limpurger mountains; behind it the long ridge of the Waldenburg mountains with the eponymous town. In the east, the meanders of the Jagst valley stretch far to the north. The town and castle of Kirchberg can be made out on a mountain tongue. Here the view is limited by the Frankenhöhen, the Crailsheimer Hart and in the far distance by the Hesselberg. In the south, the small Speltach with its tributaries has largely cleared out the Keuperbergland. In the distance, the steep slope of the Swabian Alb stretches from the Ipf via Rosenstein, Stuifen and Hohenstaufen to the Teck.
