The soldiers' memorial on the Braker Stadtkaje was created by the sculptor Hans Damman from Berlin-Grunwald after the First World War.
The figure is made of Bavarian limestone and the base is made of Thuringian shell limestone, an extremely weather-resistant type of stone. The memorial is a protected monument due to its special importance for the cultural and structural development of the city of Brake (Unterweser).
The seated warrior, about to lay a laurel wreath for his fallen comrades, remembered the approximately 300 Bracers who fell in the First World War or died as a result. In memory of the dead in the First and Second World Wars, the monument has had the current inscription since 1952 and has thus been transformed into a memorial for the victims of both world wars.
