Did you know?
There is a water mill in Žvėrynas that has survived since the time of the Radvilas. This mill was built and ponds were dug in the 16th century, the water system was supplied by the Šaltuona stream and springs flowing from the surrounding hills. Historical sources show that in the 17th century. the peasants of the neighboring Saltoniškės went to repair the dams every year. 1830 Two mills were marked in the Vilnius city plan: “French” - at the end of the current Latvių Street, the other - between two ponds, on the site of the current bridge. It is not known when the former mill further away from the Neris and the bridge built in its place disappeared.
