The Komptendorf church is the largest church in the Neuhausen / Spree community. The field stone building dates from the second half of the 15th century (1475) and was extended about 100 years later by the east choir. The four-storey brick gable of the east choir is richly structured by plastering panels and a decorative piece from the late Gothic period that is well worth seeing.
The square tower was built together with the church. Only the upper bell floor with the brick crenellated crown and the brick polygonal pointed helmet probably dates from the first half of the 16th century. The windows of the church were enlarged in the baroque period. In 1990/91 the very badly damaged church tower and the outer facade were restored.
Inside, the Renaissance wooden altarpiece is worth seeing (1575). In three paintings, presumably influenced by the Cranach School, the sacrament, the resurrection of Christ and God the Father can be seen one above the other; the founding family of G. von Kottwitz is painted on the base.
The wooden pulpit from 1698 is also beautifully decorated. The floating christening angel, which still holds the water bowl for baptism, dates from the same year.
