The area around Lake Wichel is a nature reserve. A variety of different bird species can be found on the lake and in the adjacent floodplain forest, including eagle owls, tufted ducks and a colony of swans. This protected environment makes Lake Wichel a popular place for nature watchers and bird enthusiasts.
On the opposite side of the lake there is an impressive rock face.
