St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish Church (Forbach)

Saint John the Baptist (also Johannes Baptist), to whom this church in Forbach is consecrated, is - like Saint Joseph - a man on the threshold from the Old to the New Testament. His parents are Zacharias and Elisabeth, after the proclamation of the Incarnation through her, the Mother of God visits her relative Elisabeth, who will give birth to a son in old age, namely John the Baptist. He is six months older than Jesus and is considered to be his forerunner / pioneer. He lives in the desert, preaches the repentance of sins to the Jewish population and baptizes them in the Jordan, there Jesus also comes to be baptized, and he is filled with the Holy Spirit, who comes down on him from heaven.
The feast day of John the Baptist (Baptist) in the saints calendar is on June 24th, exactly six months before 'Christmas Eve'.

Very impressive church building from 1891

At the end of the 19th century, the large church with two towers made of local sandstone was built in the neo-Romanesque style and consecrated in 1891. A comprehensive restoration took place before the turn of the millennium, during which the original paintings and ornaments were restored. In favor of the urbanistic effect, the sanctuary was not oriented to the east. This is how the portal façade presents itself in all its beauty towards the valley and the town.
