The octagonal Baroque building, built around a votive chapel, was built between 1667 and 1681 according to plans by Giovanni Sebastiano Robecco. In 1709 the vestibule designed by Ambrogio Remelino was added.
The interior vault is decorated with frescoes by Giovanni Antonio Soliva and Giovanni Battista Soldieri from 1681-1683.
The altar with stucco work by Domenico Rezia, created between 1678 and 1683, contains the fresco of the original chapel from the 16th century.
