Pretty ensemble of castle and castle complex. Privately owned and inhabited, usually not accessible.

Can only be circled from all sides.
Viewings are only possible during castle festivals or on open monument days.

The ruin of the core castle from the 13th century lies on a mountain spur (spur castle) east of the town center. It has an oval floor plan and a kennel with several shell towers. The preserved 25 m high keep with a wall thickness of around 2.40 m and a square floor plan of 8 × 8 m is attached to the outside of the wall on the east side of the complex. The neck ditch is also on this side of the complex. Inside are the remains of two residential buildings.
The first castle was probably built around AD 1000, the successor building was mentioned in documents in 1317; a castle grumbach, which has nothing to do with the current castle building, in 1256. The complex initially belonged to the Lords of Grombach, from 1311-1803 the Prince-Bishops of Speyer. The former church of the town fell victim to the expansion of the castle in the late 14th or early 15th century, and was replaced by the later chapel. This was first mentioned in 1401. The construction of the four-story palace can be dated to 1461, and the fortifications have also been expanded. During the Thirty Years' War the castle was besieged and captured several times and later part of the castle was destroyed by French soldiers. Damian Hugo von Schönborn (the builder of Bruchsal Castle) had the castle building still in use and still in use from 1720 to 1723. It was used by his successors as a summer residence until 1803. The building was romanticized in the 19th century. After several changes of ownership, Gustav von Bohlen and Halbach acquired the site and buildings in 1885. It was a summer quarters for the family; the winters were spent in Karlsruhe. The property is still owned by the family today. Visits are possible as part of the open monument day or castle festivals.

Obergrombach lies on a spur above the valley of the Grombach. The complex dates back to the 12th century and was expanded in 1521 to include a castle in the outer bailey. Today the palace and castle are private and cannot be visited. A circular route gives the opportunity to go around the castle. The courtyard, the palace, the stump of the keep and the impressive ring wall have been preserved. The best view of the castle is from the village of Obergrombach.
