In 2016, this tree turned 150 years old. It was King Wilhelm I of Württemberg who helped Tuttlingen to acquire this botanical curiosity. Because of its size and resistance to forest fires, the king had a pound of seeds sent to him. The seedlings were distributed to the various forestry departments of the kingdom - including Tuttlingen. "Sequia gigantea" is the scientific name of the royal jubilee, but it is popularly called Wellingtonia.
