Here the rare blue granite was mined. In the meantime, blue granite is only quarried in Europe at the Kösseine quarry near Schurbach.

Blue granite has been found here at the Blauer Bruch, which lacks the limonite coloring - in German: rust or brown iron ore or brown iron stone coloring. In gas bubbles (miaroles or drusen), the quartz, feldspar and mica rocks that were already formed could "develop" undisturbed during the cooling phase and thus contributed to the abundance of stones in the Fichtelgebirge mentioned above. A particularly large number of rare minerals, also popular with collectors, can be found here on the Epprechtstein, whose mineral wealth was already known in the 19th century - in Goethe's time - and many scholars - like Goethe and Alexander von Humboldt - moved to the Fichtelgebirge for research purposes. While Goethe only made a stop here in transit to the Bohemian baths, Humboldt was involved in mining in the Fichtel Mountains.
