In 2013, the city of Püttlingen launched its first grazing project, the water buffalo project, which also functions as an eco-account measure (i.e. external compensation measure for various construction projects). The city is the operator of this grazing measure, and the animals are looked after on site by volunteer members of the Köllertal species protection association. The pastures are located in the Köllertal floodplain between the fitness club and the Köllerbach sports field or Köllner Platz, on both sides of the meadow path and west of the railway embankment path (Kehlbachaue).
