Work on the Elbląg Canal began in 1844, simultaneously in three directions: northern, southern and western. They headed west from two sides: from Miłomłyn and from Dauby Lake. The biggest problem on this section was the Karnickie Lake (formerly known as Abiskarski), whose mirror was about 2.5 meters below the water level of the Elbląg Canal. Raising the water level in the lake was out of the question because large areas would be flooded. The construction of locks, in turn, required significant financial outlays and solved the problem of water supply. It was decided to build an aqueduct (i.e. a canal) on the Karnickie Lake of the earth type, which definitely distinguishes it from these types of buildings (at that time aqueducts were built as bridges).

At the narrowest point, the lake was divided into two parts, a dyke was built at the bottom of Lake Karnickie, 46 meters wide above the lake's level. In the middle of the embankment, a 10-meter wide and 1.5-meter deep gutter was led. This is how the 484 meters long Karnicki aqueduct was created. A culvert was set up below the causeway to level the water in a divided lake.

Along the aqueduct you can cycle a grassy little-used path.
