Mountain Biking Highlight
The Kolding lakes in the Southern Leineaue are special and worth a walk at any time. Extensive water areas, green-lined shores, geese chatter and birdsong in the midst of restful silence. It takes a good one hour to explore the area on predetermined routes. It is difficult to imagine that in this idyllic area until a few years ago wheel loaders, bulldozers and dredgers left their mark on the landscape. The Kolding Lakes are a second-hand habitat. It was created by intensive soil degradation. For over 40 years, pebbles were extracted and processed into high-quality aggregates for the construction industry. Legacy: Around 190 hectares of water, spread over a good dozen lakes. Because of the great importance for flora and fauna, in particular for the bird world, the lake landscape is since 2001 under nature protection. In addition to the Steinhuder Meer, it is the most important bird resting area in the region. In order to make the area experienceable, accessible and experienceable for humans, the Hannover Region has, among other things, created a circular walk around the Great Koldinger See, set up an observation tower on its western shore and created a north-south route in the direction of Ruthe, on which the route 15 of the HANNOVER BICYCLE REGION runs from the Maschsee through the Southern Leineaue.

really nice here. With the MTB you can really make speed and there are passages where you directly left and right water has (see my tour made!). even if it is only renatured regions, it is already quite nice there and is very suitable as a destination from Hanover, because even other great highlights can be approached.
