During the imperial period, the city's water requirements increased enormously. During this time, many water reservoirs were built, including this nymphaeum, which, in addition to its functionality, was a showpiece in public city life. It became the goddess Artemis Pergaia, the emperor Septimus Severus, his sons Marc Aurel and Geta, the empress Julia Domna and the city of Perge. This is what it says on an inscription board that was found in the ruins of the nymphaeum. The front of a nymphaeum was often adorned with statues of gods, emperors or important citizens of the city. What is certain is that a statue of Artemis was housed here.
