The “Città di Vittorio Veneto” refuge rises at an altitude of 1547 m, a few meters below the summit of Monte Pizzoc, where the current Piazza della Pace is located, used as a lookout point. Here, starting from 1962, during the Cold War period, a military radar control base was built in connection with the launch base located in Pian del Cansiglio. Operationally closed in July 1977, it was definitively abandoned on August 21, 1979.

It is an excellent panoramic point from which to observe the Alpago Mountains, the Belluno Dolomites, the Revine Lakes, those of the Val Lapisina and the Col Visentin-Monte Cesen ridge. On clear days the view sweeps from the Gulf of Trieste to the Euganean Hills passing through the Venice Lagoon.
