ICE Passing Loop Ilmenau-Wolfsberg

In the course of the "German Unity Transport Project" (VDE) number 8.1 with the new Erfurt - Ebensfeld line, an alternative or overtaking station was created here.
The station, located at route kilometer 154.2, was initially planned as a passenger station for Interregio trains. After a change of plans in 2011, the station was put into operation as a pure overtaking station in December 2017.
In the meantime, the discussion about a passenger station was growing again. In April 2020, the operation of regional traffic in the southern section of the new line, via Coburg, was awarded to DB Regio. As part of the transport contract, which runs from December 2023 to December 2035, five pairs of trains per day are to be routed from Coburg to Erfurt.
Beautiful trails lead up here in and around the forest area. Partially very overgrown.
