In 1978 a pedestrian bridge was built near St. Emmeram in Oberföhring, the timber frame construction with a shingle roof as a reminiscence of earlier times and buildings. Somewhere nearby there was probably once the legendary Isar Bridge, which Duke Heinrich the Lion had destroyed around 1158.

The wooden bridge is an important link between the English Garden (Hirschau) and St. Emmeram in Oberföhring. The design came from the building department of the city of Munich, construction and statics from the Munich engineering office Natterer. The total length of the truss bridge, which was completed in three months, was 96 meters, width 4 meters.

On the night of September 2nd to 3rd, 2002, a pyromaniac set fire and the bridge went up in flames. Total damage 2.2 million euros. The arsonist was arrested in 2003.

The city council decided to build a bridge at the same location, but deliberately refrained from reconstructing the clumsy old bridge. Despite static and structural problems, a light and filigree bridge was created in 2004, which is convincing in terms of design, economy, construction and construction costs. The bridge was inaugurated on May 13, 2005.
