The Europahafen was opened in 1888 as a free port (since 1938: "Europahafen").
1955-60: The construction of the north quay is in full swing. Storage I, shed 1 (38,000 square meters of storage space), shed 3 and ten new cranes are being built. Eduscho and Bremen Tobacco Exchange built.
During the expansion of the harbor basin, workers encountered an archaeological sensation in 1962: they discovered a Hanseatic cog from the 14th century. It can be viewed today in the German Maritime Museum in Bremerhaven.
In 1998 the last cotton was unloaded in bales in the European port.
The Europahafen remains as a harbor basin, but there is no longer any typical port use. The water surface is mainly used for recreational shipping, on the north side the Marina Europahafen was built. The adjacent land areas are reserved for service companies and residential purposes.

      Pure variety in the Überseestadt

In Überseestadt, newly revitalized, huge, old storage facilities made of red brick stand in an exciting contrast to the most modern architecture. A mix that is used no less varied. Creative and innovative start-ups work next door to traditional companies from the maritime industry, while numerous green spaces and outdoor activities invite you to relax or be active in the open air. Creative artists are just as passionate about realizing their projects as the makers who turn their passion into a profession in special factories. And the gastronomic offer in cafes and restaurants is just as diverse as the offer of living space, which offers a home to different people from socially subsidized housing to high-priced lofts. The whole thing happens against the magnificent backdrop of the Weser and its harbor basins.
