The Godchaux brothers Guetschlique and Samson laid the foundations for a rapidly expanding textile and glove industry in the Alzette Valley in the early 1830s. The water from the river is used for cooling, energy generation and waste water disposal. Following the paternalism of major industrialists of the time, the Godchaux laid out residential quarters for the workers, daycare centers, canteens and washing areas alongside today's bicycle route alongside the production facilities, administration buildings and a villa. The path leads in the direction of the grinding mill to the "Fohlsmillen", which today serves as artists' studios. The industrial family established the first cloth factory with steam processes on the urban area in 1851. The Godchaux reached their heyday between 1890 and 1900 with around 2,000 employees (including in France). The industrial journey through time ends with the old power plant and a chimney that can be guessed at in the forest. We leave the remnants of a long-standing textile industry behind us when climbing up into the forest towards the Tennis Club Bonneweg.

Nice as a visit: by doing Hesperange/Luxembourg we have the city and the road on the left of the Alzette and on the right 1 wood and therefore a lot of shady places. Bike path all the way. Own. Possibility of kayaking (I believe: there was 1 "KayakHes" cabin but closed). Further, it was not the niagara falls but very pleasant for a nature break with a picnic table, if interested. See CR7 info. Have a nice visit !
Note: if like me you are on a bike, avoid Howald station: choice between stairs and... stairs. The elevator was too small. On the other hand, the Luxembourg station was perfect (you understood it was 1 multi-means of transport day 😉)
