Borgo Malanotte can be considered a true open-air museum, an oasis of peace in the countryside of the Piave plain. It takes its name from that of an ancient family of wealthy wool merchants, the "Malanotti" or "Malenotti", originally from Caldès, in Val di Sole (Trentino). The origins of Borgo Malanotte are very remote: the first attestation of the existence of this town dates back to 1400. It is indicated as property of the "Bonoti de la Campagna" family, who lived there practicing the grain and household goods trade. This ancient settlement was a fortified place located on the road that led to the Lovadina Ford, a fundamental crossing point of the Piave at the time, and was frequented since its origins by merchants, men-at-arms and pilgrims who gave an initial impulse to the economic development in the township.

Between 1600 and 1700 about 250 people lived in the Borgo, differently employed between agriculture and crafts, forming an autonomous production unit. In addition to blacksmiths, carpenters, carpenters, the small village had a rich spinning mill and a cellar for the production of wine.

During the Great War, Borgo Malanotte became an outpost of the Austro-Hungarian army and the trench, which still exists and worthily preserved, confirms this. On 27 October 1918, the Italian Corps of the Xth Army and the XIVth British Corps won a great victory against the enemy right at the Borgo, freeing the occupied territories of the Piave, until the complete revenge ended with the battle of Vittorio Veneto.

Today the Borgo hosts various events and historical re-enactments. The atmosphere that surrounds it, including colorful capitals, arcades and precious frescoes, offers anyone who crosses it a contact with the local traditions.
