History of the cave
12,000 years ago, before the vineyard was cultivated, the Chatelard Scex Rock, the former arm of a delta of the Rhone Glacier (glacial moraine), was home to the first men in the Alps.
Due to its dominant position facing south, we know that the first men took shelter in the cave called "Grotte du Scex" or also "station of the Reindeer" by the archaeologists Taillefer and Desaussure in 1869. Indeed, the majority of bones found at the bottom of it came from reindeer.
