Best Hikes to Ravensburg Castle (Sulzfeld)

Tips

  • Well-preserved castle with a beer garden, restaurant, and a magnificent panoramic view from the tower. Admission is free.

  • Enjoy wine and panorama! Around the Ravensburg near Sulzfeld in Kraichgau. A fantastic view from the tower and a beautiful restaurant in the castle garden invite you to linger.

As a wine-growing community, Sulzfeld is known far beyond the borders of the Kraichgau today. The history of the place is closely connected with the Ravensburg. It is the former headquarters of the Barons Göler of Ravensburg and is one of the most important preserved castles in Kraichgau. In the 50s, the remains of the castle were renovated and a restaurant set up. A bridge leads over the moat into the inner castle with a charming castle garden. From here you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view over the whole Kraichgau, which is only surpassed by the tower view.

Be sure to climb the tower:
    • Panoramic view to Vosges and Palatinate, vine landscape.

  • As of March 2022, the Ravensburg is no longer accessible to the general public. In the past, you could visit the entire complex, climb the tower and have a drink in the beer garden or in the restaurant - this is currently not possible. You can only get to the site with a reservation. We have been brusquely turned away several times and will now leave our money with other innkeepers. So you should not plan the castle as an attraction and place to stop for refreshments!
