The ducal castle in the northeast corner of the city is a late Gothic building from the 15th century. The Wittelsbach Duke Stefan II began it after the destruction of the castle previously located in the southeastern part of the city. His son, Duke Ludwig the Bearded of Bavaria-Ingolstadt, completed it after 1421. The foundations of a round tower can be seen next to today's entrance. It lost the character of a moated castle with a drawbridge over a ditch in 1960 when the ditch was buried.
