The two towers, Breiter Turm and Hallescher Turm, were built in the period from 1394 to 1397 of brick. They are among the oldest and tallest structures in the city and were built to improve the city defense at these locations. On the east side of the wall belt is the 46 meter high Breite Turm. From 1504 to 1890 he served as a living and working place of the Türmers. Today, in the residential area at that time, there is a historic shoemaker's workshop from the 17th century, while the other floors house museum and gallery exhibitions. Also the 38 meter high Hallesche tower on the western city wall served from 1686 to 1898 as living and working place of a Türmers. In a dungeon in the tower sole, convicts were imprisoned until their execution. The brick building in the 16th century received a Renaissance construction in the form of a lantern for the installation of a bell. Furthermore existed further smaller Wart and powder towers, of which, however, only isolated foundations are available.Source: Wikipedia.

The Breite Turm was built as part of the Delitzsch fort around 1396, and protected the eastern entrance to the city. The height is 46 m. For a long time the Duke lived here, whose daughter in the Thirty Years' War prevented the city from devastation by Swedish troops by blowing the signal.

You can climb it from time to time. On my last visit, the host was ill though. But should be open again. One can ask the egg-frog in the street.
