According to the calculations made by geologist Frank Storbeck in 1983, the center of gravity of the Netherlands is about three kilometers southeast of the center of Putten. In 1984 a heavy boulder with a large steel ring was placed on that spot. If you lifted the Netherlands by this ring, was the idea, nobody would notice – because the Netherlands remained exactly in balance. Most residents of Putten know that their village has the center of gravity of the Netherlands on its territory. The tourist office sells miniature stones with a ring on it.
