The Friedrichsberg is the highest mountain (930 meters) in the district of Passau. There you can expect a wonderful panoramic view of the Bavarian Forest mountains, the Bohemian Forest, the Austrian Mühlviertel and, in foehn weather, even as far as the Alps. In 1930, the teacher Rauchensteiner from Thalberg built a viewing platform with schoolboys on a tree, which could be reached via a so-called climbing tree. The next structure on the summit was a wooden tower in 1938, which was used for surveying purposes. In 1969, at the suggestion of District Administrator Robert Muthmann, a twenty meter high wooden lookout tower was built. As it became more and more dilapidated, the current steel tower was built in 1993. In 2007, the Wegscheid forest association section put up panorama boards for orientation.
