One is amazed to find such a breakthrough in the heath cut deep into the rock. When driving along the Prießnitztalweg you only notice the geological disturbance through the sudden steep climb. So make sure to turn off the main path and look at the waterfall, even if it can't quite keep up with the Niagara Falls.

The strange course of today's Prießnitz probably goes back to the rare geomorphological process of river tapping. The upper course, which faces north-west and lies on the Lusatian granite slab, probably continued some 10,000 years ago in what is now the Promnitz Valley and was thus a tribute to the Great Roeder. As a river of the plateau, the upper course had only a moderate gradient and little erosion. On the other hand, today's Prießnitz lower course, which was already aiming for the nearby, deep-lying Elbe, worked its way into the sandy bottom. Due to the erosion to the rear, he finally cut the high Röder inflow sideways at today's Prießnitz kink east of Klotzsche and diverted it southwards to the Elbe. As a result, the slope and erosion of the upper course increased, which consequently created an even valley until it encountered the granodiorite disorder described in the subsurface section and exposed it. Therefore, erosion slowed again in the upper reaches, but continued unimpeded in the lower reaches. At the interface at the fault, these processes resulted in a step up to several meters high in the past, which is now known as the Prießnitz waterfall.more: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prie%C3%9Fnitz_(Elbe)

The waterfall of the Prießnitz river is something special. To experience these forces of nature. you do this hike. The rest options = rest area with seating and the hut, which can only be reached via steps, offer individual hikers as well as groups of hikers opportunities to linger here for a certain time. A refreshing footbath in the river bed is refreshing, but as there is quite a current, you have to be careful not to get knocked over by it.

The Prießnitz waterfall is not particularly high or spectacular, but the area including the bridge and the refuge is really a very nice resting place in the heather.
